A highlight of the event was the annual Atrium Special Project, aptly titled ‘New Local.’ This unique showcase featured regionally rooted products that blend innovative design with technology, culture, and materials from Japan and around the world. Renowned architect and designer Mr Keiji Ashizawa once again led the project, promising an enriching experience for all attendees.
The Young Designer Award, recognizing emerging talents poised to lead the next generation of the interior design industry, was awarded to Ms Hana Mitsui of HANA TEXTILE DESIGN STUDIO. Mitsui's award-winning textile, ‘Textile of Illusion - Kurume Kasuri -,’ creatively fuses the misalignment of threads with optical illusion effects.
“I thought it would be difficult to receive recognition because of the niche world of kasuri, but thanks to the help of my colleagues who cooperated with me, I was able to win the award. In fact, I was considering exhibiting at Ambiente next year, so I am very honored to have been given the opportunity to exhibit,” commented Mitsui. As part of her award, she will be invited to participate in Ambiente 2024, further showcasing her innovative work on an international stage.
